Share a hobby you’ve picked up recently — what got you into it?
I have been trying to find my true self and also keep to myself as I navigate to reach my short term goals and reach my long term goals in recovery.
In recovery some of the key components are people, places and things. Which basically is changing my entire life, including hobbies.
I sat down and thought of the things that I liked to do before my years of addiction. I remembered in elementary school we made our parents coasters and a matching kleenex box cover for Christmas. I also remember how proud of myself I was and how excited I was to see my parents open their gift.
Now most people know that I love to paint acrylic paintings on canvas. So, when I looked up the supplies needed to make my “elementary” style coasters I realized that one of the things that I needed was plastic canvas.
I kept researching how and what I could do with some yarn and plastic canvas. To my surprise I realized that I have found a new but old hobby.
I learned that not only is it a hobby that kids enjoy, I also learned that adults enjoy the many things that you can do with plastic canvas and yarn.
Now I’m making anything from memory boxes, book markers, keychains and of course my area of expertise..
Coasters! I’m also embracing my inner child and being my own loving parent to resurface a little bit of a childish bliss I forgot that I had! God is good!
