Who can honestly say they haven’t told a little white lie; a harmless or trivial lie, especially one told to avoid hurting someone’s feelings? You’d be lying if you said you don’t lie. Even though we are told, and taught that lying’s bad let’s get real, we are imperfect. Everyone tells a little innocent lie now and then. Especially when it benefits our Zen and hurts no one in the end. Right? Just a little lie and no one gets hurt. No biggie. I believe that’s where we get it wrong and the bad comes out.
“Little by little, a little becomes a lot” ~Tanzanian proverb
When someone tells a lie to benefit themselves, it’s taking a high risk to cause hurt and distress on another. You don’t get two goods out of one lie. When you are constantly being lied to by someone you love and should trust, it creates a domino effect in your entire life. Even though they might be harmless little lies. It adds up to become betrayal, deceit, anger and resentment.
So as imperfect as we are, don’t live a life of lies so you can ‘one up’ yourself in life, because what goes up must come down and the truth always prevails. Remember you make your own bed, and you will have to lie in it.
